ALMOND – HIS POSITIVE ATTITUDE & CHOICE…..AA, The talking wall

This is a story about positivity. No matter, how low you may feel the choice to be positive remains with you and only you. We may think that others make us feel bad but in reality, it’s us who chooses to feel bad.

There was a man, who saw and lived life only through his choices. His name was Almond. He was the kind of a guy everyone loved to hate. He remained cool and calm, happy and in good mood at all times. Whenever someone asked anything, his rely was always filled with positive thoughts and suggestions. When someone asked him about how he is feeling today, do you know what his reply would be. He would say, “If I were any better, I would be twins!”

Such happy character Almond was.

Almond was unique in many ways but the most important character, his positivity made others feel positive as well. Almond worked in the Sales Department as a Sales Manager. All the companies he worked in and left people would leave their respective jobs to follow him around from company to company. The only reason people followed Almond was his attitude, his attitude towards life which got reflected in his work as well. He was a natural motivator. When someone in his team had an off (bad) day, Almond rushed to make him see the brighter picture, the positive side of the negative event. This in itself is very difficult but when you learn the effect of positive choices, you get transform into the ball of positivity, which when rolled, spreads positivity across all directions.

One day one of Almond’s new employee, Gerard, approached him in his cabin while he was reading a book. “I don’t get it!” Gerard said in the frustrating voice. He continued, “No one can be positive forever. It is not natural. I have tried and tried but at some point I get crazily upset. How do you do it? How can you be positive at all times? Almond smiles at Gerard and said, “Positivity is not to be forced. It is a natural way of expressing one’s desire to be on top of any situation”. Unable to comprehend what Almond said, Gerard kept looking at his face thinking about the crazy words he is speaking.

Almond after a pause said, “Every morning, when I wake up. I open my eyes and say to myself, Almond; you have two choices today to spend your day. Do you want to be in a good and happy mood today or would you like to b e in a sad and unhappy state for rest of the day. At that point I choose the first option, to be happy and cheerful and exhilarated state”.

Almond continued, “When I feel the situation is bad and something terrible has happened, my inner self asks me again, Almond would you like to be a victim of the situation or would you like to learn from it. I choose to learn from the situation”

Pausing for a moment, with a smile on his face, Almond said, “If someone comes complaining to me, my inner self again gives me two choices, would you like to accept the individual’s complain and would you like to point out the positive side of it. I choose the latter”.

But Gerard was in such a grumpy and frustrated mood that he exclaimed in anger, “Yeah, right, it’s all good to say and listen but it’s not that easy as it sounds”.

Almond immediately said, “Yes it is my friend”. Gerard kept quiet to know more.

Almond continued, “Gerard, life is a choice”. Differentiating between Inbox and Spam of an email, Almond said, “When a person is able to scrap all the noise from the sound, every situation transforms into choice. It is you who has to choose how to react in any given situation. Don’t think about results, think about the situation. It’s you who choose how people are going to affect your mood and feelings. It’s you who chooses to be in the good or bad mood. At the end, it is your and only your choice that decide your state of mind, it is your choice how you choose to live your life.

Gerard kept mum and left the office for that day and never returned back to office. Gerard opened his own small firm and started his new venture. For a long time Almond and Gerard did not meet. But Gerard often thought about Almond when he made choices about life instead of becoming a victim and reacting to it.

After a long period of time, Gerard heard from somewhere that Almond did an unthinkable, that he should have never done. Almond by that time became the Store Manager of a very good food chain. Almond forgot to secure the back door of the restaurant and was held on gun point by robbers.

Robbers forced him to reveal the security combination of the safe in which the whole month’s money was safely kept. Shaking with nervousness, the combination slipped from his mind and he was shot on the spot by the robbers who panicked before fleeing the scene. Fortunately, paramedics reached at the scene very quickly and he was rushed to the trauma centre. Almond was operated upon for a full complete day. His surgery went for 22 hours. Almond was shifted in the ICU and was discharged from the hospital after few weeks while the fragments of the bullets still remained in his body.

A year after the incident, Gerard found where Almond was and went to meet him to enquire about his health. Gerard upon meeting Almond asked, “How are you Almond” to which Almond replied, “If I were any better, I would be twins”.

Gerard mustered some courage to ask Almond about how he felt and what had gone through his mind as that incident happened.

Almond said, “At first, I was thinking, I should have secured the back door. Shouldn’t have left it open. Then when I was shot and I was lying down on the floor, my inner self cried out to me and asked me that Almond you still have two choices as usual. Would you choose to live or would you choose to die. As always, I chose to live”.

Gerard anxiously asked, “Almond were you not scared at all? Were you unconscious?”

Almond replied back saying, “The paramedics were brilliant. They came very quickly. They were continuously speaking to me and telling me that I was going to be fine. But at the time when I was transferred to the operating table in the trauma centre, I saw the real expressions on the faces of the doctors and nurses. At that time I got really scared. I could very easily see in their eyes that I might not survive that I will die for sure. I knew I had to act swiftly and take corrective action”.

Gerard in excitement asked, “Almond, so what did you do? Tell me Almond, what did you actually do?”

Almond said, “Well, standing just near to my head, a very big nurse who was shouting questions at me, she suddenly asked if I am allergic to anything. Yes, I relied quickly and paused. The doctors and nurses waited for my reply…at that time I took deep breath remember my inner self and belief and yelled BULLETS. All doctors and Nurses actually laughed. Over their laughter, I told them, “I have chosen to live. Please operate me as if I am alive, not dead”. Gerard had tears in his eyes and couldn’t utter any words. He realized and understood that positive attitude does wonders not only in professional life but also at every moment of personal life too.

Almond lived, of course because of the magnificent skills of the doctors, but also due to his amazingly positive attitude towards life. This story is a very tiny attempt to guide you to understand and learn from Almond that every moment we have choices to live fully. Attitude after all is everything and positive attitude is the choice that always remains within you.

Unbalanced Situations or Conscious Decisions….do we really know?… AA, THE TALKING WALL

There always is, a decisive moment in one’s life where consciously or unconsciously we take action.

We are living in a world which begins with a run in marathon and end in one too. During our existence in this life, we go through uncountable moments that becomes are very expressions of our own selves. We start getting noticed by all based on it.

Certain actions, certain movements become our trade mark. We are judged and looked upon because of those repetitive moments that we have made a part of our daily routine.

Since, my childhood I was always looked as an introvert. No need for anyone and no support needed at all. There were many like me and there are many even still and they will continue to be there but are they actually introvert? In fact can anyone be an introvert?

There are times, when we want to be in the middle of a discussion, sometimes away from even a sound of a pin dropping on the floor in the quite atmosphere. There are even times when we create such atmosphere where people come and talk to us, listen to us, and ask about us. Knowingly or unknowingly, we mostly want to be someone who is not neglected but at the same time not over burdened with the pressure of society.

We always want to be balanced in every way. Be it any of those hundred characters that we play in as many hours in a single day. But at the end of the day, if we reflect back upon our day’s events, we can clearly see that our actions have created one-sided moments from which we always want to run away.

Do we know why is it that although we are determined to live a balanced life, still ends up in unbalanced events?

None of us have the truthful answer. We all have our manipulated ways to answer this question. When we are judged, we feel rush of emotions swirling through our body. We feel that lightning striking within our body giving us Goosebumps. We feel so energised looking at the person or group who is making comments about one’s existence that we for a moment forget our very own existence.

These rushes of emotions are not spontaneous. They have been swirling in us from long, they just gets connected to that event taking place and creates an unbalanced atmosphere. At any given point, no matter how hard one tries, these surge of emotions always start on an unbalanced equation leading the one further away from balance.

Isn’t it an experience that all of us had in past and continues to have it at all times of the day, even at present, reading these very words?

Precisely at the time when this surge starts within ourselves, at that every moment another surge starts, probably a bigger one that tries to control the emotional surge simultaneously but due to our tendency to be in the middle of an event as soon as the opportunity arises irrespective of its nature, we tend to ignore this larger surge helping the emotional surge in getting bigger and bigger, leaving the other surge working its way in a smaller way.

But the second surge never stops.

When the momentarily event is over, the emotional surge dies down and our concentration goes towards this smaller surge working its way, which tell us about the pros and cons of the passed event, we realise that there were things that could have been avoided, the outcome may not have been what it was. There was something else that I could have done.

Why such thoughts linger in our mind only after the event has taken place? Is it not possible to have these thoughts looked upon only at the time when the event is about to start? What stops us from having this intellect of decision making power at that very second when the first wave or emotions engulf our intellectual existence and fan our physical existence?

There are so many questions that our mind processes when we think about such simple yet magnificent thoughts and experiences that we go through each second.

Does it mean that we can actually stop events from taking place? Does it mean that we can actually change what is happening? Is it really possible to realise the power of creating & destroying and exhibiting it at the same time?

Can we really say out loud that we have the power to change?

Is there even a remote chance that listening to the second surge might give us peace and stops any event if not favourable to all from happening?

Each one of us goes through this phenomenon of being someone we think we are not, during a day’s life events. On the same night with sleepy eyes, we think over it again and again. Some of us during this phase of half-awake decide whether we will be a part of such events ever again.

Such powerful thoughts and knowing about this reality, this experience, we tend to start our new day with the same cycle of unbalanced equations, being part of unbalanced events. And again get tied down in the outcome of such events only to later realise, we have just repeated yesterday one more time.

We are the ones judging ourselves, we are the one’s looking up or down on ourselves, we are the ones pushing us to be a part of the unbalanced equation.

Every one of us is responsible and accountable to our own actions. No matter how prompted we will get, no matter how materialistically good or bad the event might be, it’s us who gets in the middle of such unbalanced life events. At that moment, no matter how emotionally unbalanced we are, we are making a conscious choice.

What is our true nature? What is our true existence? Who we really are? We know all the answers. It’s just at the time when we could have found our respective answers, we find ourselves riding the first wave of emotions leading us into the abyss of emotional turbulence away from looking at the light that might enlighten us with Truth.

It’s our life, it’s our body, it’s our thoughts, and it’s our existence. Let not allow them to linger in the wasteland of materialistic world rather carry them in our hands where ever we go to find out the truth about who we actually are.

The question here is….do we really think that we have time to do all this in today’s world? Well…we all know that we have already answered this question by now. It’s only a moment of letting that second surge overcome the first surge of emotions will make you realise the answer.

We Agree or disagree, that doesn’t matter as life will move on irrespectively but on what path…………it will always be a mystery!

PODCASTING IN EDUCATION…RG

Internet nowadays is intensively used for communication, information sharing, information gathering, and research, entertain oneself etc. Today’s youth practically lives in the “Social Networks” on internet than any other place. With increasing demand and development publishing, content has become easier and convenient for individuals.

Podcasting is a special way of distributing audio and video content over internet. It is basically a RSS feed i.e. a computer readable summary of the content of a webpage based on XML. The question now is how can podcasting be efficiently and effectively used in education?

For Education purposes, students need more than an audio or video file. However, Including PowerPoint slides in podcast may add value. Other files can also be attached to a podcast using <enclosure> tag. Educators may also like to consider publishing enhanced podcasts. They are smaller in size and are delivered using MPEG4 or WMF files. Podcasts are meant for mobile learning and hence should be designed keeping this fact in mind.

Open and widely accepted formats of sharing information helps students to easily access content on podcast. If you have an enhanced podcast, which is not supported by all devices, one may consider offering a MP3 version as this format is universally accepted. Podcasting should come as an asset to the students. This can be really helpful for students as they have easy access to information, they can analyse and learn at their own pace and time. It can be used as a great learning, test preparation and revision toll before examination.

While creating such learning materials some part of them should be kept recyclable. Hence, during the editing and production process one should keep in mind parts of podcast that could be used later. One should never underestimate the amount of work required in producing a podcast. The pre-production process, recording and the post-production and publishing time may altogether take up a day or more depending on the content being created or converted for each podcast. But it is worth the effort.

Some key pointers to achieve better student participation may include keeping the content less formal with high redundancy, the students should be addressed directly, it should revise lecture content as well as include new material, fun content such as music can be considered to be included in the podcast (keeping legal issues on copywriter in mind) and lastly, it shouldn’t last too long. An optimum length for a podcast may be from 30-40 minutes.

This informal way of delivering course content is convenient, encouraging and motivating. One should consider using it as an integral part of a course as students can gain as much as they want from it. It can turn out to be a real asset for any programme.

Facebook and Learning …RG

Learning is social…hence can social media tools be used for learning by students?

About 70% of students in any university use social media in class. It is also common with IT savvy teachers. Having a Facebook page for class, group, community etc is very common. But do students really learn with these Facebook interactions? More importantly, what do these pages mean to the students, particularly for academic purposes?

Tutors have experienced that with wide range of mobile devices being used by students, they can achieve greater engagement from students by using Facebook which is easily accessible via such devices. The question arises is how it should be used to achieve learning without compromising academic objectives?

Teachers can use NOTES functionality to update key take away for students after every lesson. This section can also be used to upload pre-reading material where students can read before the class and come prepared. With this approach, there will be more interaction in class instead of one way traditional delivery of lecture or should I say beginning of flipped classroom approach.

The LIKE functionality can be used to gather feedback or evaluation of a particular lecture, subject material, lecturer etc. if a lecturer gets a regular feedback on his/her lectures this would give him/her an opportunity to improvise (if required ) or make his lecture more interesting for students. Similarly, this functionality can also be used for peer evaluation. Students can evaluate each other’s work and give constructive comments learn and grow together.

Engaging students in the subject material and maintaining their interest is the most important task every lecturer has. Use of social media can help engage more students than other traditional methods such as survey etc. Since it is easy accessible students need not put extra effort to login via laptop/desktop etc and perform task.

Facebook sends updates whenever anyone comments, likes, adds content etc. hence this can be used to communicate with students. Students can communicate among themselves and with the lecturer on regular basis. They can even form discussion forums and discuss projects without being physically present with each other.

Lecturers can post questions in form of quizzes to help students test themselves in a fun way. They can also discuss their reasoning for choosing a particular answer and it will form a learning community which will benefit everyone reading as well as attempting the question. Student can post questions which may arise during the class. If in case time doesn’t permit, the lecturer can answer those questions later and all students would be updated with the answers.

Such means are measures of eLearning can help immensely to improve curriculum delivery in any sphere of education more efficiently and effectively among peers, students, etc. this can gradually help to implement flipped classroom approach which is make learning more effective and efficient than preset scenario.

Materialistic and Spiritual Self…A subtle division… AA, the talking wall

We all are unique individuals but bounded by materialistic ropes that we have manufactured since our birth.

We are born alone with no clothes, probably no or minimal hair, closed eyes and trying to make our little self, accustom to the new world in which we have entered.

The moment Mother’s umbrella is removed and child gets exposed to the natural light which illuminates this world, a shock-like phenomenon occur in the self-absorbing mind of a child. The pain and fear of direct exposure to this light seems quite a lot for the child to bear and the cry to get back the umbrella starts the child’s journey into the mystical world of BRAHM.

Slowly and gradually the need of the umbrella dies down as new ways are shown to the child. They feel safe again and first smile shows the sign of child’s acceptance to the new world. The self-absorbing vault-like mind starts accumulating consciously unconscious thoughts, visions, images etc., deep inside. Simultaneously, the child encounters the savings inside the vault and tries to use it every moment to satisfy the arousal of query that invades the calm, soft and tender mind of the child. The invasion seems alien to the child as it has originated from the man-made boundaries of relationships, concrete walls, cosy bed and difference between safe, unsafe, inside and outside environment.

Elders starts educating the child as the age increases but child starts learning the moment this world envelopes the new soul and provides a separate mechanism for it to grow further. During the elderly teaching, child encounters hurdles of its own. While playing on the concrete or wooden or tiled floor, while trying to give shape to the scattered plastic blocks, while eating by mother’s hand or drinking water from a saucer plate or cup on the table, child’s mind questions each actions and vault throws answers to help resolve the query.

This process keeps getting matured and consciously known to the child as it starts crawling instead of sitting, tries to stand up but do not know what to do next. Child’s mind provokes the conscious to move the leg and it does without thinking. It seems like, the child is in control of some unknown force and the child falls down questioning the provoked thought, crying for the umbrella that once was over it.

The child always remembers the umbrella but is not attached to it as it was once, due to many other external and internal activities that has taken place since its introduction to this seemingly magical world of attractive surroundings. Still, it remembers and crave for it but crying seems the only way out as the mind assures the child that someone will address the present need of yours after the loud cry is heard.

Such emotions and cleverness yet unconscious and externally unprovoked. A defence mechanism or tool to find a shoulder? Who may know this?

Little by little, day by day, child starts walking without questioning the provocation of thought to take the next step forward and slowly, gradually, learns to listen to its inner voice. The voice that always shows the way forward. During this extraordinary and divine experience yet still very unconscious, helps the child to grow further as age progress.

Child grows and learns to speak instead of making crackling noises. The same vault and provoking thought assist the child to tone down the shrillness of the sound and roll of the tongue and use of the air within to pronounce a word; MAA-MAA.

I believe, every child in this world, irrespective of any geographical language barrier would have spoken this sound. It is very pleasant and every mother associates the sound to the name that they carry after the birth of their child, MAA.

Child seems to enjoy this sound, as every time the sound comes of out their small and limited opened mouth, someone special pays conscious attention towards them. Now, the cry has transformed into the sound of MAA. It is really an astonishing achievement for the child. It plays in the mind again and again and again. Isn’t it the innocence at its best?

Child fails many times during the learning phase but the attempts made are countless as the mind is young and focused on its own growth. It listens, it sees, it feels. Combination of so many factors starts building the daily itinerary along with personal library that child will have access to at all times during their lifespan. This process of making the mind accustomed to the surrounding provides an inner peace and satisfaction but moreover, it invites further queries and pushes the mind to find further resolutions to the risen queries.

This self developed, natural, divine methodology has allowed us to think, to judge, to act, to believe, to accept, to reject, to do, to undo the unlimited micro second actions that we continue exhibiting to the outer world. Is this the way mind evolves? It first, arouses the consciousness to the event and then open the channels for the mind to start its functioning of reasoning towards the events.

Are we growing in this way or it’s the other way around? Are we reading available materials to learn or do they exist ONLY for reference purposes?

Will this mind function the same way, if we allow it to reason with thoughts arising outside from within the other individuals or will it be same, if the reasoning is done with the thoughts, queries arising within ourselves?

The need to extract information is never ending but is it wise to sprint behind knowledge without analysing the information available within?

Do we already have the knowledge that is required by us from time-to-time or is it just a myth? Are we already realised or there is no such realisation?

There are billions of unsatisfied, unanswered, non-reasoned thoughts that exist in the child-like vast mind of every individual but I guess, it still wants to reason with the inner voice first. Do you want to give your child-like mind, the opportunity to once again start reasoning with the inner self rather than devoting the vast capacity of the mind to involve in outside world?

At the end, we know who actually taught us to speak, we know who actually taught us to walk, and we know who actually helped us grow.

The answer is always with YOU. The reason lies deep within, waiting to surface just one more time….

Are our actions and expressions defined by consumption of types of food or the thought by which we consume it? – AA, the talking wall

Oh Wow! That’s the expression I exhibit sometimes within and on most occasions in open when I am hungry and look at the dish served to me.

It is a delight to eat. It is wonderful to get energized and be ready to continue with our daily routine. It gives immense pleasure to consume and to cherish the taste that remains in the very conscience even after the food is finished.

Food is a basic amenity to each one of us same as water and air is. Without proper nourishment, our body would not function in the manner it is supposed to. We might feel lethargic, tired, lazy, and weak if we do not consume food properly. There are many varieties of food that exist and many of us rather all of us probably have choices to which we feel more attracted when we are hungry.

Now here is what we all would have noticed but I guess not the same number would be conscious of it.

According to what I have experienced, we eat to satisfy the lust of our tongue and not the hunger lingering in stomach. We eat to taste the essence of food that we already mentally have tasted by imagining food even before it is served for us to consume. Although it is an exceptional feeling to be happy at all times but when it comes to consumption of food, our consciousness should not be on how it tastes but the fulfillment of our hunger.

Every one of us wants to have the best food available within our budget and we try to reach out to it as soon as hunger overcomes our intellectual mind and directs our conscious towards fulfilling our stomach’s need.

It is by my experience that I realized that consumption of different varieties of food introduces our self to different expressions that we carry within us as a hidden part of our character. To find out whether, the food carry an ingredient that could possibly have effect, I conducted a long and quite difficult experiment on myself.

During my college days in Ireland, being a vegetarian, I decided to start the experiment with full consciousness to find out about the effects of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food that might or might not have effects on the thought process of human beings. It was a difficult start but I guess I was determined to satisfy my inner voice that discriminated between two food genres.

I started with a type of non-vegetarian dish and to my wonder really liked the taste and feel of it. The moment it touched my tongue, I felt really nice about its texture, its overall look and the after taste that it left in my mouth to cherish the food that I have consumed. I never would have thought this in my wildest dream that being a non-vegetarian is actually not that bad idea. I thought it was just a social norm to be considered different being a non-vegetarian.

I forgot about the experiment for a while and was totally unconscious about any of my thoughts that I had earlier about finding the truth of food effects on human expression. I could write about it now because I realized later the reason why I started to consume non-vegetarian food when someone pointed out few changes that I was exhibiting.

If I still remember correctly, I was about to finish my daily class and while leaving the room, I was looking at few charts that were drawn on the sheet hanging on the white board. To my surprise, I was told by someone that I have kind of changed and they can notice my expressions and voice notes getting quite louder with time; sometimes, not very pleasant.

Well, I did not bother to give much of a thought to that particular comment or compliment; I am not sure what that person meant. At night while I was out on my daily routine, part-time job, I was about to have my normal noodle dish with non-vegetarian gravy and it hit me. I was completely overwhelmed with the expression of that individual.

I realized that my promise to myself to consume all genres of food was to find something and not to enjoy the taste. Well, I went and stood in front of the mirror and started looking at my face. May be I was over reacting or was desperate to find out some visible difference in me, I concluded that my facial expressions have definitely changed and my body language have become, I must say aggressive.

For next few days, I observed the thoughts that I was having in my mind and I found out that something new is introduced in my system that is reflecting in my expressions and bodily actions. So, I decided to go to the phase two of my experiment and started consuming vegetarian food only. I continued playing my role as vegetarian and non-vegetarian foodie for 2 years.

I realized that it is not the food that carries the ingredient that can change the thought of humans. It is the thought itself that consume us at the time we decide what we want to eat to satisfy our…….lust. I realized that as soon as we are hungry and our consciousness activates this thought, the image of food also appears with the thought of hunger itself.

We all would have witnessed this thought. According to me, the difference between identifying the lust factor and pure hunger factor is the development of saliva in our mouth. Now, can we say that saliva is the basis of the lust ingredient which is the product of the imagination of that particular food? It’s you who can experience. Everyone has experiences but not all have the same ones.

I believe that at the time of imagination or starting to consume the food, our thought towards the food and our hunger plays a vital role in defining our inner state. It is not the food but our thought about it with which we consume it.

Everybody wants to be humble and polite and good to all but still we witness the different expressions of humans. Does food play as one of the factor that give shapes to our thought or is it just a notion that some people experience and some don’t?

Consciously working towards making our inner self pure and free of provocation of any unwarranted thought, we must always remain in complete control of our thoughts. Indeed, it is very difficult to maintain such commitment towards flushing provoking thoughts but is it not worth it?

Nobody has the right to tell anyone what to consume and what not to. It is the freedom of every individual to act based on their judgment and decisions but one thing is certain that before actually starting to eat, if we are conscious of our thoughts that arises in our mind based on the food that I served to us, we can certainly get benefitted with the positivity that might help us to think clearly.

Food and the thought towards the cooked food both are the key ingredients that add another level to our existence thinking which defines us and assist us in exhibiting ourselves through bodily gestures in a particular manner. It is our duty and responsibility to feed our true self with nourished and fresh thought in the form of food. Anything that drives us towards satisfying lust, we must be aware and conscious of it.

Does our individuality depend on what we consume? Is it true that our thoughts and actions are the bi-product of our daily consumption of type of food and the thought with which we consume it? Or are we just trying to find out the relation…

Do we understand the humility of expressing NO…..or it doesn’t exist? – AA, the talking wall

There are many dimensions of our personality and we witness each of these personalities residing within us from time to time. Since the beginning of time for us, we have seen various situations where we played our part and also did not.

In today’s world, we have become a medium to produce what everyone in this world with expectations wants us to produce. We have our individuality but at the same time, there are so many factors that do not permit us to behave or express our real thought. Even though we somewhere deep down know that the expected scenario might not be in favor of our individual self, we still tend to accept and say, “YES”.

We do not realize that we are binding our conscience with the boundaries that surround the expectation. When we find ourselves in this scenario, we choose to say YES on most occasions only to safeguard our reputation or to please the individual or group who expects us to accomplish their expectations.

When we find ourselves often in these situations, we tend to brand ourselves within the environment as “YESCOHOLIC”.

At early stages, this seems to be a very brilliant idea as it brings us a lot of appreciation and support. Our ego is boosted and we feel on top of the world but slowly and gradually with our growing image and persona of being the YESCOHOLIC, we start encountering the situations that demand more of our intellectual involvement and discriminating power before agreeing to accomplish the laid down expectations rather than just playing the character of the YESCOHOLIC.

Now, this particular situation, although the crux remains same becomes very difficult to handle. We, on one hand, think that we must reject and suggest few alterations and on the other hand, our reputation starts compelling us to accept the idea as it is and start working on its accomplishment, the same way as we did on earlier occasions that brought us laurels and social respect.

According to what I have witnessed, people give-in to their compelling thought and continue with the urge of saying YES to the expectation. That’s it! From materialistic perspective, the chain of unfortunate events starts un-folding upon us. Deeper we dig into the path of execution of expectation, difficulties starts becoming the integral part of our very existence. Day-in and Day-out, the situations and quest to find answers covers our thought process with a blanket that closes all the doors to the inside as well as the outside world. We, without consciously noticing, confine ourselves within the boundaries of that expectation and feel the burden of its non-accomplishment and starts paying the cost of saying YES. Heavy or not, that depends on individual scenario but one thing is for sure, that our intellectual mind goes into hibernation.

Due to our prior commitment, even though we want to get out of this particular situation, we still somehow find ourselves involved in it. We start believing that if we back off now; all the people involved in the accomplishment of the idea will feel negative about our personality. We continue to suffer and suffer. How long will this last? This is the question that nobody knows answer to.

It is our duty to protect our inner individual that suffer the most during our outburst of saying YES at most times. Do we start saying NO? Well that’s not the answer, isn’t it? What I believe is that by not working to please the surroundings, if we work to accept who we really are, will allow us to dwell within ourselves and find the real us who doesn’t give-in most times to the demands or expectations of others rather it guides us to be practical and take decisions based on the capability that we actually have.

We witness this during our interactions at our home, our work place, as well as during conversations with people we know outside our home and work.

Why are we not behaving or expressing our real thought? Do we think that by maintaining what others perceive about us is the right thing to do? Have we decided that we will always take a decision to make the other person happy?

There are numerous doubts that arise in our mind but we tend to ignore each of those just to enjoy momentarily appreciation without realizing the horrifying outcome that awaits us in near future.

Our first and foremost duty is towards ourselves. We mustn’t feel any duty which is above this. According to what we all have witnessed during our growing years, we always saw people cribbing and failing to accomplish what is expected of them at home and work regularly. And I always thought, why is that we are unable to reach to the heights that people expects us to because at the end of the day, we are the ones who have decided to undertake the task after knowing each and everything about it?

It was only when I started working, I realized that saying YES has its advantages and manageable disadvantages but at the same time saying YES to things that we know are beyond our capabilities create an environment of suffering and depression rather than happiness and sense of fulfillment.

We all know what we can and cannot do in our lives yet we get the sinking feeling of failure clinging onto us. Wouldn’t it be nice to achieve the desired end result and successfully complete the journey that we started by accepting the expectation most of the time? Oh yes, it will be, I am sure that we are sure of it!

Only when we will realize and understand the difference between our true potential and thinking what is our true potential, we will start knowing the power of “NO”. We will all witness in amazement that saying NO has the same pleasing effect only with more safe options and calculated end result that last forever. The character of a YESCOHOLIC is mostly to please and give-in to the momentarily scenario in comparison to the individual who is not afraid of saying NO when it is absolutely essential, who upholds his/her thought of executing the persona of inner individual. The character of this individual in particular, is to understand, analyze and decide what best can be done to achieve the laid down expectation without rejecting the idea in full. This individual creates an environment of trust and complete determination of working towards the goal that has the future to be accomplished.

We are yet to identify that later character within us. We all have it, that’s for sure but what we are not sure of, is how to find this character and realize it exists. How to lay down a process to understand the importance of analysis and then choosing between the YES’ss and NO’ss? Will we be able to reach to this level ever and find out our own individual, unique character? That’s something we need to work on……or…Not. Who decides?
